Default Halloween viewing this year...

Wow! I tell my neighbor how I liked Zombieland,
and he, being a (cue Howard Stern's Paris Hilton
sound bite) HUUUUUUUGE horror fan, hands me
a few titles from his library. What I've watched so far this week:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the remake)
TCM: The Beginning
Dawn of the Dead (remake) to watch the special features.
Halloween (the Rob Zombie remake)
I bring em back to the guy, and he hands me the
original Dawn of the Dead: Anchor Bay S.E. divimax and
Day of the Dead remake with Ving Rhames and Mena Sauvari...
to haaaave! I didn' know Day of the Dead was remade until he put it
in my hands. I have my fill of Halloween scares. So much for my picks.
What are you guys planning?

Wow...only thing I could stand sitting through again are both Dawn of the Deads...everything else you couldn't pay me to see (Day of the Dead, TCM: the Beginning) or to see again.

Well...he gave me the 3 "Dead" films to keep.
Thought that was pretty nice of 'im.
I like the Dawn remake. Ving Rhames
is in Day with Mena Sauvari...and who
can't do without a copy of the original "Dawn"
classic in their library?...guess that'd be me...
until now, anyway...That is one sick cover for
the Day of the Dead....yeeesh....

I checked Turner Classic Movies for this weekend,
and they gotta a ton o' monster classics comin on
for Friday and Saturday. Ought to be interestin.
The midget wants to watch em as much as to
Trick 'r' Treat. He'll be in monster heaven.

Wonder if there're any parties goin on....

The remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD is great.
Thanks to my "Genre of the Month" for October, I've seen lots of Stephen King horror flicks. Everything from CUJO and CHRISTINE to MISERY and THE MIST.
But I've also managed to see a few non-King movies. DRAG ME TO HELL, MOTEL HELL and ZOMBIELAND.

I decided to give Rob ZXombie's "Halloween" a look this Halloween and I was surprised to find that the film was actually not half bad. Zombie is definitely a better filmmaker than musician.

I think Rob Zombie does a good job at everything he does. Music, art and film.
Halloween was..."effective" as a horror film. It was a virtual
stab-a-thon! I didn't hate it. But, I don' think I'd be able to watch it ever again.
Unbelievably, I think I gotta see Halloween 2. The guy who had lent me
the 1st movie said the 2nd is just like the original sequel. I'm interested.

As a side note, a friend of mine brought his son with him and we all went trick
or treating sat nite. I asked, since I had a werewolf costume donned on my
son's request, if he was dressin up. He was. My friend's name was Rob. And he
had some make-up on as...you got it...a zombie. My son, who had NO idea what
he was saying, decided to call my friend "a Rob Zombie". It was odd. Rob and I
laughed. And, I explained to my son, what the significance of "Rob Zombie" was...
and he was mystified because of the whole "Halloween" and "White Zombie-Bela Lugosi"
and "Rob's a zombie" connection. Was good for a few laughs. That's all...

I like the first half of Zombie's 'Halloween' but then it gets 'tired' with nasty foul mouthed characters that you want to see dead!..it's like 2 different films. Is part 2 on dvd?..maybe I missed it in stores.I do like his 'Devil's Rejects' a lot though. His next project is a ' Blob' remake.

Haunted World of El Superbeasto which is an animated film based on Rob Zombie's comic books and has nods to Zombie's Halloween and even Zombie's Werewolf Women of the S.S. In fact, the last nod is a huge sub plot of this movie.

It was not a great film or even a good film with the focus being heavily on nudity (its animated, remember!) and some very awful jokes. I rented it primarily to hear the music of Hard & Phirm (Chris Hardwick of G4 fame's band).

Blood: The Last Vampire, the live action film. Plot and story are not the best but its an adapation of an anime so it succeeds in that. The sword fighting is absolutely breath-taking and it harkens back to the Japanes films of the 1980s with over the top violence (no nudity because its not needed) and spectacular visuals.

His 'Blob' should be a 'riot' of a remake..but I read it might not look like the big globs of goo as in the other 2 film versions, his is supposed to be a fresh new take on the story.
