Been thinking of upgrading my Dell CRT to a LCD Widescreen 22" display but i'm not up on these things. Everything i read about LCD screens scares me and i don't know what Contrast Ratio 700:1 or 1000:1, Brightness 300 cd/mē, Response Time 5 ms all mean. I'm thinking one of thse two would be a good choice. MY computer is a P3 500Mhz with Jaton Nividia GForce4 MX440 64 megram video card.
Acer AL2216WBD 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Ultra-fast 5ms, WSXGA+ 1680x1050, DVI, VGA, Black, VESA 100mm $199.99 Hyvision by Megavision MV220 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 5ms, 1000:1, WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050, DVI, VGA, Component Video, Black, Integrated Speakers $219.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...asp?CatId=2775 |

I've been using a Samsung 213T for years and I've been exceedingly happy with it. Before that I had a Samsung 19" LCD and was equally impressed.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=S203-2120 They are a little more expensive but worth every penny. I do see though that your PC is a bit low-end and your Geforce4 may have trouble driving these 1600+ pixel resolutions at an acceptable speed. The thing to remember is that with an LCD you have a native resolution and you should not simply switch down to 1200 pixels or 1024 or something because it SERIOUSLY degrades the image quality. An LCD is built to display a certain resolution and anything varies from that resolution will invariably result in nasty-looking artifacts. |

A little more expensive is putting it mildly. Sounds like i need to upgrade the video card or just stick with what i have.
Thanks |

Hey, a cheaper monitor isn't necessarily bad. I've just been using Samsung monitors for the last 15 years almost exclusively and I stick with them.
What you need is a higher end video card that can handle the resolution and has decent hardware acceleration to take some of the workload off your CPU. An nVidia 5200 card doesn't cost a whole lot - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...9637&CatId=319 but it will make a huge difference to your system if you really plan on having a larger monitor. Just make sure you buy the correct version - PCI or AGP, depending on what your motherboard supports. |

You should check out the Samsung SyncMaster 906BW......
22".....2MS refresh rate....and a max resolution of 1440" x 900"......all for less than you'd expect. I've got one myself and have to say it's absolutely amazing ![]() |

Why does my LCD monitor hurt my eyes? Do they make an LCD monitor that is easy on the eyes? I think its the brightness of the screen but im not sure why it hurts my eyes. Does anyone have an answer as to what I can do about it?
