..T2 Extreme edition

Does this version have a better image than the original dvd?.. or is it worth getting just for the extras?..it's very cheap now but I don't care about the extras..

The original release was a bare bones disc put out by Artisan than 2 more releases followed.

The EE is cleaned up considerably. It isn't the extended,extended cut if I remember correctly. There were 3 versions of the film on the Ultimate Edition. The Extreme Edition offers one of the extended cuts with a new 1080p/24fps transfer & a dolby EX track.

I prefer the dts from the Ultimate Edition & prefer the video of the Extreme. The difference PQ is defintely noticeable & if you can find it cheap, I recommend it for sure.

The theatrical version runs at 137mins.

The special edition version has a 152 minute running time.

The Ultimate Edition DVD presented both versions on a DVD-9 with dts 5.1 ES and Dolby 5.1 EX surround sound. For those who knew the date, a third version of the film (154mins) could be found with the alternate ending used to close the film.

For this film, a new widescreen transfer was made for 480p displays. The sound was also remastered from the original stereo surround elements into 6.1 channel sound. This 6.1 remaster track was then downmixed to 2.0 surround for the alternate Dolby Surround track.

Since the future is not set...Artisan Home Entertainment (now Lionsgate) decided to present T2 as never before.

Using a new digital restoration process, the film elements were cleaned up. Scratches and film blemishes were erased digitally and the film given a new telecine at 1080p high-definition.

A new Dolby Headphone soundtrack was also created. Using the remastered Dolby 5.1 EX track as a base, this special soundtrack creates the illusion of 5.1 audio from headphones.

The Extreme Edition DVD uses this new high-definition restored widescreen version. Downconverted to 480p, the results are still stunning but only two versions of the film are included on this: theatrical and special edition. The original theatrical version in 480p is hidden on the first disc. The second disc has the original theatrical version in 1080p 24 using Windows Media Player and a DVD-ROM drive. The 480p DVD-Video presentations are in Dolby 5.1 EX or Dolby Headphone while the Windows Media HD presentation is Dolby 5.1.

If you don't really care about the bonus materials, then the Extreme Edition is worth it.

I have the Japanese edition of the Extreme Edition which is a three disc set. Disc one is the special edition version with commentary. Disc two is the theatrical version with the bonus materials. Disc three is the "Extreme" interactive version of the film.
