20th Century Fox International Home Video has already announced the release of The French Connection on Blu-ray Disc in the UK. However, this release contains only the bonus features from the DVD release and presents the film in remastered 1080p widescreen wtih dts HD Master Audio 5.1 surround.
William Friedkin was not happy with the previous presentations of his landmark film and so he has been involved in an extensive color correction and restoration process.
The upcoming US Blu-ray Disc will feature a brand-new restored version of the film created from the original negatives. On top of that, Friedkin has also supervised the new multi-channel surround soundmix and that will also be used for the BD.
It does not stop there, new interviews with nearly every cast & crew member have been created and a new retrospective documentary will be included on this release.
Stay tuned for more details and street date on the ultimate The French Connection.
