I just picked up Iron Man on Blu-ray and popped it into my PS3 to watch and it doesn't seem to be working (even after downloading the latest update) -- I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. Basically what appears to be a load screen (featuring the Iron Man chest light gadget thing) appears and blinks. This continues for a lot longer that I would expect a Load Screen to take. Any help would be much appreciated.

It works fine for me. HOWEVER, I did receive a replacement disc from Paramount after they had sent out the initial batch of review discs, saying there were problems on a few selected players, so you may want to give Paramount a quick call.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I'm posting again because I tried it again and this time just let it sit. After several minutes, it finally loaded and now appears to be working fine. Hopefully it was just a fluke thing. Thanks again!

I just finished watching it and had no problems with the video, but the dolby true hd audio track is a different story...I am running dual subs and the LFE sounded horrible...my subs sounded distorted like a sub sounds when exremely over loaded...I had to adjust my Denon audio and sub settings to keep from distorting LFE. Now, before anyone asks, my subs aren't cheap(18" definitive technology) and my system audio is calibrated for dolby reference level. I have many Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies with dolby true hd audio tracks and have never experienced this. I did notice on this movie that even on quiet scenes the audio Mbps as displayed with the PS3 are way up there...those of u with a PS3, check out the scene when he crashes in the desert after escaping...the Mbps are way up after the crash. I wouldn't think this would be an isolated audio problem but who knows!? It's a shame cuz I really enjoyed this movie.

The reason for the load time is that this a BD-Live enabled title. The load time is due to the disc connecting to Paramount's BD-Live service. It connects and looks for any BD-Live updates so the new options can appear in the BD-Live menu. It doesn't download any new features automatically...all it does is update the BD-Live menu so you can download them if you wish.

Sadly, like HD DVD, if the BD producers choose to include BD-Live functionality they are not required to have a progress bar show up or even inform you that it is connecting to a server. I had the same problem with HD DVD discs that were Online Enabled. Knocked U[ and Transformers (2007) took about ten minutes to load on my HD DVD player. For the Iron Man BD, I waited about five minutes for it to load.

If you want to avoid this just turn off the Internet function for BD under the BD/DVD settings. This will make sure the disc loads much faster in the future. Of course, you will miss out on BD-Live features but right now the only BD-Live feature worth long load times is the "Intelligence Mode" for both the HD DVD and BD of Transformers (2007). Maybe Sleeping Beauty's BD-Live will load faster AND be worth using.

There are 2 different UPCs for Iron Man cause of the recall.

Both copies do work with the PS3 without the internet connection on. I never have mine on. This is the reason people had problems with the disc while others worked fine. Its cause the BD-Live features were not available right away.

Oh & gil,

Paramount (from what I read) has messed with the TrueHD track in the same fashion as Transformers. What happens is Dynamic Range Compression is applied to your receiver. You may want to check that the PS3 has the DRC off & your receiver isn't in 'night mode' Supposedly doing so will increase the soundfield.

With Transformers, I had no luck even with no compression from my receiver or PS3. Paramount simply put, f'ed up their mixing. Even so it doesn't sound too bad but the lossy HD DVD is wayyyyyyy better. :)

I've double checked my settings and they are ok...I've read comments over at avs forums and it seems this BR release is a mixed bag regarding the audio...I plan on feeding the audio by toslink connection and see how that sounds.

Well I played Iron Man on the BDP-S350 & the audio definitely has DRC applied to it. Though Paramount is a mixed bag because Transformers on the PS3 sounds weak compared to the BDP-S350.
