Last night I watched the Blu-Ray version of Doomsday. I had not heard of this film before the Blu-Ray announcement and it sounded kind of interesting. I wasn't too sure after seeing the first few minutes but I am sure glad I kept watching.
"Doomsday" is an amazing amalgamation of various horror-pop-culture movies from the past, all combined to create a thrilling - and exceedingly violent/gory - movie that has a very unique signature nonetheless.
It is a perfect mix of "Day of the Dead" meets "Big Trouble In Little China" - sans the humor -, "28 Days Later" and most of all "The Road Warrior." In fact after the film was over I thought, this could definitely have been a "Mad Max" movie.
So folks, if you totally dig Max and the Road Warrior scenario, make sure you pick up "Doomsday!" This film has attitude - although it does have a few flaws also, but fortunately the action glosses over it very nicely.
