Nick, I've only heard and seen maybe a few of these movies. Classics, yes.
And, to be honest, it's the first time I've heard this actress' name. I just find it odd that they name her a "Scream Queen". Wasn't their somebody else, more famous from her moviemaking timeframe?

Sorry not Nick (but even older). The term "Scream Queen" is kind of generic. Lots of actresses have been called that. It is used for actresses who are best known for horror films.

Yes, "Scream Queen" is more of a title than a name, referring to actresses who stood out as great "damsels in distress" in horror films and thrillers.

I guess the way I phrased my question made it look
as though I was sayin that there should only be 1 "scream queen".
And the title shouldn't go to just one.
But, if asked "who is a scream queen in the U.S.?", I would only come up
with 2. Janet Leigh and her daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis. Maybe, even
Adrienne Barbeau....mmmmmm....in the 70's, early 80's. I don't think
anyone could name one or two of the woman in the horror flicks
done today. The casting is so random...Sarah Michelle Gellar?
........naaaaaah!
But, over in England, if ya asked me to name one, Hazel Court
wouldn't be it.
I wondered if Nick could tell us if there was a MORE famous
"scream queen" in England then Ms. Court.

I'd say Barbara Steele. She appeared in many Italian horror flicks, but was British.

Where's Nick? :)

THAT'S THE ONE!!
...(Altaira does a Charlie Brown pratfall)...
Thanks, Altaira.
That's one who I think is more famous...
albeit, a later "scream queen".
Unless, Nick comes up with an English
horror production she was in.
Yea...where is Nick?

How sad to hear of Hazel Court's passing. She was very memorable (and screamed very memorably) in The Masque of the Red Death. :(
And by the way, Fay Wray was the original "scream queen," and still is the ultimate one for me. :D

Sad news, she was in some classic fiilms but I don't know if she should be considered a 'scream queen'..I would say Barbara Steele has that title.'Doctor Blood's Coffin' is another one of Court's films,'Curse Of Frankenstein' is her most famous film I think.

Oh God guys, you bring up memories here. The Mask of the Red Death, Curse of Frankenstein,... I need to dig through some old DVD boxes and pull these out... great flicks that I want to see again now that you mentioned them. :-)

Was tryin to post this yesterday, but, for some reason, i put in my name and password and it asks me my name and password, over and over again.
Well, I'm in now....
I KNEW IT!! The "I don't know's" have it!! From Nick's mouth to my ears, iiiiiiiit's gospel. Two things I am curious about, Nick...
If ya had to name the ALL-TIME FAVORED scream queen, world-over,
who would it be? Jamie Lee Curtis?

It's hard to say, any actress who apears in many horror films could have that title,Joan Collins called herself the queen of the British horror films in the 70's in an interview a few years ago,so each decade has it's own scream queen I guess..30's Fay Wray,60's Barbara Steele,70's Joan Collins,80's Jamie Lee Curtis.

Hmmm...forgot about Joan Collins...
I remember her in Empire of the Ants, though...
haven't see that one since I was a kid in the 70's..
Thank You, Altaira and Nick

I'm not sure why Collins calls herself the British scream queen..the only horror films I remember her doing are 'Tales From The Crypt,'Tales That Witness Madness'and a thriller 'Fear In The Night'..'Empire Of The Ants' isn't even in the same class as these films because of it's 'low budget bad effects' and 'bad' acting.

I agree about Empire of the Ants, 100%!
I just meant, that was one of the films I
only remembered her in...until you mentioned
Tales from the Crypt. That story that she was in,
with the psycho on Xmas night, had to be the
creepiest of the 4 stories in that movie. At least,
when I saw it back as a kid in the 70's. Gruesome!
