So, just for conversation sake, let's say I wanted to run out and buy an HD-DVD player as they will probably be on sale.

Do you think they will be selling the HD discs cheap? (Like that bargain bin at Walmart?)

What is the best HD-DVD player?

Edited to add: Whoops, I just read this in the other thread:

This will be the last and only thread to discuss the shuttering of the HD DVD format, players, and recorders.

Please move this post if it is out of line.

Sinse a HD DVD player plays DVDs, I don't think your post is out of line.

Currently the best DVD player on the market actually is the HD-XA2 Toshiba.

Good Luck. :)

This is fine as is since it deals with sales and not the cooling discussion about the end of HD DVD.

-

As for the topic itself, Hollywood Video stores that carried HD DVD are closing them out at $14.95 and many people have reported that these qualify for the 2 for $20 deal. Not a bad deal for new titles like American Gangster and high retail priced releases like Zodiac: Director's Cut and The Brave One.

All Best Buy stores are closing out the ones that have the free King Kong but no word on if the rebate will be honored.

I had some Best Buy Rewards dollars and a coupon, so I picked up a Toshiba HD-A30 HD-DVD player. I got it for $67 including tax. I know it isn't the top of the line, but it is still a great deal. It came with two DVDs. I'll send in the "Get 5 Free HD-DVDs" coupon, but who knows if they are still honoring it.

I then ordered some HD-DVDs at Amazon.

I believe they are indeed still honoring these "Get 4 Free HD-DVDs" coupons, so the movies alone are well worth the investment.

Anyone seen the Matrix for under 40 bucks yet? I really just want the first movie and 40 is just too steep.

The Ultimate Matrix Collection (SD) is $38.99 at Amazon. Better hurry, their prices go up and down more often than Paris Hilton's panties!

I ordered the Matrix Complete set (HD-DVD) from Amazon for $41 plus change. It dropped over $6 in the three days it was in my shopping cart!

I finally caved and bought The Matrix Trilogy HD-DVD set for $41.99 and return to House on Haunted Hill for $16.99 from Amazon. Those Matrix sets are becoming hard to find, so I decided to get one while I can. I like the first two films a lot, but don't care much for the third. My new HD-DVD's are piling up on me since I don't have a surround sound receiver to watch them on right now. I also picked up The Simpson's Movie SD DVD at Target for $10!
