A friend of mine recently told me to go to youtube.com and watch Kevin Smith talking about his Superman script and how he met with the guys at Warner. It is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I don't know if you guys have watched it, but I highly recommend. Just go to youtube and type: kevin smith superman. It is easy to find. You will also find a video where Smith talks about his impression on Burton's Batman.
Anyway, at the end of the clip, he say how Burton decided to not shoot his script. But the story ends there.
Does anybody know what happened after that? Why was the movie never made?

The stuff that Smith tells about John Peters is crazy! How do these guys make it all the way to the top?

Been a few years since I last remember thinking about that.

The movie was never made because the producers were essentially complete a-holes. Tim burton was being an *** and the producers, Strick I think his name was is an ***** who didn't know the first thing about Superman. When he saw the name Kal-El in Smith's script, he had no idea to whom Smith was referring.

I noticed there is a wiki on it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_Lives#Superman_Lives
its under the Superman Lives portion.

WB screwed up Superman over the course of 15 years trying to make the movie that would eventually become Supes Returns. They went through 5 or 6 directors. Producers. Nicholas Cage was hired at one point to play the Blue Bomber too.

It seems to me that WB still messed up Superman. Not even Brian Singer's skills as a director saved that piece of crap that came out in 06. They should hire Christopher Nolan to make another one.

Check out An Evening With Kevin Smith on dvd. Kevin is giving a lecture during a college tour. He goes into the whole story about his Superman movie, his clash with Jon Peters, and how he ended up feuding with Tim Burton over Superman.

Smith is a master storyteller. Just listening to him stand up at a podium for an hour and a half and talk about the movie business in general is really cool. Check it out.

BTW, there is also An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder, but I haven't seen that one yet.

Kevin Smith goes on and on like a whiney bit...girl about Tim Burton not going with his script.
I mean all these guys who "did him wrong" cuz his script wasn't chosen.
C'mon! Think about it. There are a ton of writers out there who ya don't hear whinin about the scripts that never went into production and Smith is still whinin about ONE. As if he's an authority and his should be picked up.
The other thing that is makin Smith more of a bit....girl is his version of things on how the end of Burton's movie Planet of the Apes (whether you liked it or not...), had a similar ending to one of Smith's comicbooks. Yea, that's what happened...Burton couldn't come up with the ending to his movie so he picked up a comicbook and lifted the ending. Brilliant.
Smith has been whinin about it FOREVER.
Chasing Amy's Brody character. Funniest thing Smith came up with.
Smith's movies are startin to be versions of "VH-1's I Love the..." pick a year.
Entertainment culture in-jokes that only some of get...kinda like Tarantino...

...what were we talkin about?... :D

The only Kevin Smith movie that I like is Clerks. The rest never did anything for me. I actually have not seen Jersey Girl or Clerks 2, but I have no interest in them. I think he should be a stand up comedy guy, not a director.

On the other hand, I wish Tim Burton told us his version of the story. It would be hilarious to see Burton impersonating Smith!!!

It's all in the costume. Superman's costume will never translate to anything but ridicules on film. I'm not sure why. It just looks goofy.
