Surger Protecters for HDTV

Monster i'm sure is way over priced for what it does so what would work for a HDTV? What joule rating should i be looking for to protect HDTV and Portable DVD player? My HDTV only cost $198.00 and is 1400x900 and the giants game sure looked good in HDTV even on rabbit ears.
