Question. I am comparing between LCD displays, and was curious as to which you guys rank higher. Let say you were choosing between two LCD's...one has a really high resolution but the contrast ratio is like 700:1. The other LCD has a slightly lower resolution, but has a contrast ratio of 10000:1. Would you go for the LCD with the higher resolution, or the LCD with the greater contrast ratio?

I'm looking at LCDs 50" and up.

Thanks,

Daniel

That's a tough call. I would probably go with neither.

Having a poor contrast ratio will make the image look murky and muddy. Blacks won't be deep and you won't be able to see the full gamut of colors and contrasts. If you watch a screen like that especially under daylight conditions, the image will most likely appear very lifeless and lackluster.

At the same time in this day and age I would never buy anything but a native 1080p set. Anything else is just not giving you real high definition.

So, if I were you I would really look for a decent 1080p set with a decent contrast ratio that is within your price range instead.
